Dreaming Repair Quilt Workshop is a chance to explore themes of repair in our lives and communities as we dye, print, and stitch fine art quilts together.
This four week workshop, held in my private studio, will cover natural dyeing, linoleum block printing, improvisational quilt design, and hand quilting. Each week we will discuss different approaches towards repairing ourselves, our environment, our relationships, and our communities, while diving deep into a new fiber technique and transforming donated cotton and linen textiles into one of a kind pieces of fiber art.
Schedule and cost: $250-$550 sliding scale. Five student maximum.
Sunday Sept 29th - October 20th 12pm - 4pm.
Week 1 - An overview of the Year of Repair and different approaches to mending. Research, inspiration, sketching, quilt planning. Natural dyeing.
Week 2 - Repairing nature (or letting nature repair us). Exploring botanical illustration and the meaning of plants. Linoleum block carving and printing on fabric.
Week 3 - Repairing our communities through transformative justice. Basic quilt block piecing, improvisational design.
Week 4 - Repairing our bodies and souls. Hand quilting and embroidery.
Included in the workshop cost - reclaimed fabric, batting, thread, and natural dyes to make a roughly 36" x 36" wall quilt. One blank book per participant. Refreshments. Students provide their own sewing machine and can bring fabric/embellishments as desired.
Students should have some basic machine sewing experience (although if you would like to take this on as a handsewn project we can definitely talk about that!). No previous quilting or printmaking experience required.
